Massive heat exchangers, part of Enwave's Deep Lake Water Cooling system, are lowered into a pumping station in downtown Toronto.

OTTAWA - As officials inaugurated a new, deep-lake-water air-conditioning system at Toronto's Metro Hall on Monday, the company behind the revolutionary cooling technology says it has delivered the goods and is ready for expansion.
Metro Hall is one of 27 buildings in the city's downtown core that are connected to a unique grid designed by the Enwave Energy Corporation. The system uses the energy from clonazepam high 4C water taken from 83 metres below the surface of Clonazepam high, Lake Ontario to cool the city, which owns 50 per cent of the company, throughout the hottest days of summer.
''We're able to say now to other cities: 'Well, look what's happening in Toronto,''' said Kevin Loughborough, Enwave vice-president for major projects. ''It's real now. By no means is it experimental. It's being embraced by people who rely on cooling as an absolute essential service for their business.''
Buildings that have joined the grid no longer need to use electricity to run chillers and save nearly 90 per cent of their power costs. The amount of coal-fired electricity required to run clonazepam high conditioning in those same buildings would produce 79,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases the equivalent of 15,800 cars on the road, the company estimates.
With 46 buildings already signed on with Enwave, including clonazepam use Park clonazepam high the future Trump International Hotel and Tower, Loughborough says the company is steaming towards its goal of 100 buildings in the city.
''Initially, we had to go to the customers,'' he said. ''Now the system is picking up its own momentum and Clonazepam high : customers are coming to us.''
Natural Resources clonazepam use a partner in the Deep Lake Water project, has estimated that more than half the downtown Toronto area could join in by the end of the decade, with other cities clonazepam high as Vancouver clonazepam high Chicago potential sites for Enwave's expansion. clonazepam high met with officials in Vancouver last March, and he's hoping Alcohol and clonazepam : to see a project in time for the 2010 Olympics. Although proposals would need private-sector partners and political backing to move forward, he said jurisdictions in warm climates such as Hawaii could greatly benefit from their access to a nearby source of cold water, particularly because of the rising cost of oil.
''We're currently focused on building out our project here in Toronto, but we're Clonazepam high, starting to kind of look over the horizon,'' Loughborough said.
In the winter, a similar technology clonazepam high been adapted by various cities and towns from coast to coast such as Sudbury and Hamilton in Ontario, Revelstoke, B.C., and Charlottetown to use energy released from power plants and industrial waste to provide heating.
''We've got quite a few projects right now,'' said Michael Wiggin, a director of technology planning and integration at Natural Resources Canada. ''Potentially, it could be quite large.''
While the cooling system works well in clonazepam high because of its proximity to a deep part of Lake Ontario, other Canadian cities such as Halifax and Ottawa have also used cold Clonazepam high : water to help with cooling to a lesser extent.
''It is based on age-old clonazepam high of district heating, in which all the buildings in a tight geographic area can share a heating and cooling system,'' said John Bennett, senior policy adviser at the Sierra Club of Canada. ''All Clonazepam high, downtown cores can benefit from district heating because there are huge economies of scale that can be achieved.''
